Meetings

Meetings of Artefacts have been held annually, usually in the fall, with the first one in 1996. As of this writing, the host institution has always been a museum that specializes in the history of science and technology. On the afternoon of the first day there is typically a tour of an exhibit or other special event, perhaps followed by an indroductory lecture and/or the initial session of papers, and then a reception/dinner. The second day is devoted to additional sessions, usually including one in which attendees comment on recent developments in the museum world (if not, this is done the following day). The next morning there are more research papers, with a concluding wrap-up session by mid-day. Occasionally optional tours or other activities are available in the afternoon. Emphasis throughout is on informal discussion.

The 2021 meeting, orignally planned to be Munich in October, will be virtual. See Current Meetings.
