Meetings of Artefacts have been held annually, usually in the fall, with the first one in 1996. As of this writing, the host institution has always been a museum that specializes in the history of science and technology. The afternoon of the first day is typically devoted to a tour of an exhibit or other special event followed by a reception. During the second day there are presentations focusing on the use of objects in historical research. There may also be a session in which attendees comment on recent developments in the museum world (if not, this is done the following day). The next morning is devoted to more research papers, with a concluding wrap-up session by mid-day. Occasionally there are optional tours or other activities in the afternoon. Emphasis throughout is on informal discussion.

The 2018 meeting will be held October 14-16 in Chicago at the Adler Planetarium. See Current Meeting.
